Prevention of oral diseases in children
After the appearance of the first milk teeth, a child should visit the dentist every six months. Thanks to regular visits to the dentist, the child forms trusting relationships with the doctor. Pediatric dentists will be able to timely detect the beginning of oral disease development and take necessary measures.
Starting oral hygiene is recommended with the appearance of the first milk tooth. Initially, parents, specifically the mother, do this. As the child grows older (from 2-2.5 years), you should explain to them how important it is to regularly and correctly clean their teeth. You can also seek help from a pediatric dentist. Experienced doctors will explain to the child the correct tooth brushing technique in a clear and engaging manner.
Parents, remember: the main enemy of milk teeth is sweet and acidic carbonated drinks. Improper diet combined with poor oral hygiene undoubtedly leads to tooth decay and disrupts the child's overall body balance.
Fluoride salt – a natural microelement in the human body – increases tooth resistance to harmful acids. It strengthens tooth enamel and is capable of remineralizing early stages of tooth decay. The amount of fluoride salt that a child receives through diet is not sufficient. This microelement should be supplemented. Pediatric dentists can recommend various ways to supplement fluoride compounds, taking into account the child's age and individual factors contributing to the risk of tooth decay prevention. Attention: overdosing on fluoride compounds is dangerous, so it is important to consult with a dentist.
Many children have teeth that are very close to each other. Therefore, food residues accumulate in the interdental spaces, forming plaque that poses threats to tooth surfaces in contact with each other. In such cases, brushing with a toothbrush alone is not enough, so pediatric dentists recommend starting to use dental floss as early as possible and maintain good oral hygiene.
Sealants – effective protection against cavities. The fissures (small grooves and depressions on the surface of chewing teeth) of deep-chewing teeth (both children's and adults') are particularly susceptible to cavities: they are very difficult to clean and therefore serve as an ideal place for bacterial accumulation. Sealing fissures is purposeful within the first three years after the eruption of a tooth – milk or permanent. Then, the enamel of the tooth is most vulnerable – in the fissure – and is formed in ideal conditions without plaque and cavity-causing bacteria. Pediatric dentists will explain the details of this procedure and the necessity of its performance.

Introduction of a toddler to pediatric dentistry
Visits to the dentist and medical procedures are experienced differently by children than adults. The first visit often determines the child's future relationship with doctors. A negative experience with pediatric dentistry can haunt a child for the rest of their life. For this reason, it is necessary to prepare a toddler for their first visit to the dentist.
Here are some tips for parents:
Regularly visit the dentist yourself and take your child with you once in a while. This way, you will give them the opportunity to experience a visit to the doctor without feeling the burden of medical procedures. The child will perceive the entire situation as completely normal and peaceful. Your goal is to create a trusting relationship between the child and doctors, including pediatric dentists. Get the child used to regular dental visits for prevention purposes.
Under no circumstances should you tell the child about your negative experience with the dentist. Try to have the child, who is around 5 years old, enter the dentist's office alone. If it doesn't work out initially, you can accompany the child. However, pediatric dentistry specialists recommend not emphasizing your presence in such cases.
